About the Escape:

The Escape of Fort Atkinson strives to serve the educational, social, recreational and spiritual needs of the Fort Atkinson area teen by providing a safe place to call their own.

By providing various types of programming, the Escape reaches out to students and provides them a place to hang out with friends, work on school assignments and learn about God.

Our mission and purpose is defined by our “4Cs”: Connected to Christ. Constructing Character. Conditioning Conduct. Caring for the Community.

Our programs serve an average of 40 youth a night during the school year, in both Middle School and High School Programs.

The development intern is responsible assisting in the Development Director in donor fundraising activities, coordinating fundraising events, grantwriting, and soliciting corporate donations. The internship will focus on assisting with the donor breakfast and Community First Night, along with grantwriting and other special events and duties. 

Duties:

Please note the duties outlined in this section are sample ideas of what this internship could cover. The staff and intern will meet during the first week of the internship to designate internship duties based on skills, interests and requirements.

  • Work with the development director to plan special events including:Parent Appreciation Night, Escape Teen Center Thanksgiving, Community First Night, annual donor breakfast, annual pie auction, and Semi-annual open houses.
  •  Help solicit and secure corporate donations for the events outlined above. 
  • Create guest lists and help coordinate invitations and responses. 
  • Manage volunteers at the events. 
  • Assist in managing database and inputting/extracting data as needed. 
  • At the direction of all staff members, maintain ongoing wish list and special project list; secure donations for these projects. 
  • Writing letters of interest/grants, managing existing grants by compiling evaluations and writing reports to existing funding sources; researching grant opportunities and developing lists of potential funding sources. 
  • Assisting with any other fundraising or development activities as needed, 
  • Assisting with any administrative activities as needed. 
  • Participate in staff meetings regularly. 
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by Development Director or Supervisor. 
  • Use effective and appropriate language and consistent, respectful discipline techniques to help youth follow the Code of Conduct and maintain appropriate behavior.
  •  Adhere to mission outlined above.

Requirements:

  • Communications, Marketing, Organizational Communications, Event planning or Public Relations majors are preferred.
  •  Must be willing to undergo a background check (required by law) 
  • This person must demonstrate ability to relate to the needs and concerns of youth.
  • Work effectively with individuals, groups, and staff. 
  • This individual must be committed to youth issues, be creative, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work independently.
  •  Must have the ability to take direction from others and work well in a team setting. 
  • Must have excellent personal and professional boundaries. 

Hours and Time:

  • 10 to 35 hrs/week
  •  Applicant should be available to attend board meetings, the majority of special events and staff meetings. 
  • Attend additional meetings and activities as needed.

*Some hours may be preformed from outside of the teen center, depending on duties and requirements of student’s program.

This is an unpaid position, however, student may receive credit for this position.
