Kumquats are a citrus fruit from China that ended up all over the world, they are ready for picking in the winter and spring… with many health benefits.

Kumquats – A Great Winter Treat

 

 

Kumquats are a small 1/2 inch size orange fruit with an olive shape. They have a bright citrus flavor that’s great eaten alone (whole) or they can be added to salads and other foods, candied and made into syrups, preserves, ice cream, cakes, pies, juice, and even used in combination with savory meats. Or you can soak them in brandy and sugar for a while and they are really good… and make a nice holiday gift.

They are low in calories (8 Kumquats have little more than 100 calories) and they are full of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals (copper, calcium, potassium, iron, selenium, zinc, manganeses), and lots of fiber.
