Police raided Google's South Korean headquarters yesterday over concerns of privacy violations by the internet giant's Street View mapping service.

Some 19 Korean National Police Agency officers seized computers from Google's Seoul offices and company officials could face questioning once the contents have been analysed.

The search giant has faced a barrage of criticism after it emerged that vehicles used to take photographs for StreetView had also collected snippets of data such as emails and web-browsing information from unsecured wireless networks.

Google has admitted to accidentally intercepting data in 30 different countries and deleted information collected in Austria, Denmark and Ireland in June. In the UK, the Information Commissioner last month concluded there is no evidence of any "individual detriment".
