Ellie Goulding has suggested that her next album will be inspired by folk music.

The 'Starrey Eyed' singer, who began work on her sophomore LP earlier this year, said that she wants to create music similar to her favourite indie band Stornoway.

"My favourite band are Stornoway and they’ve really inspired me," she told the Daily Star.

"I’ve written a couple tracks and it’s sounding really cool and different. My voice has changed and I wanted the new material to have a lot more of my voice by itself.

"I’d like people to hear more of it because that’s my instrument."

She continued: "One of the new songs is really dark. It’s about people who are obsessed with each other and wake up one morning and neither can move.

"I dream about dying all the time. I’ve talked to people who know about that stuff and it’s maybe about anxiety."

Ellie Goulding releases her new single 'The Writer' on August 9.
