'Finding Dory' trailer: Ellen DeGeneres' Dory sets out to find her family

Thirteen years after making a splash in Finding Nemo, Dory is swimming back into the spotlight. Disney Pixar has released the latest trailer for Finding Dory, the undersea sequel starring Ellen DeGeneres as a scatterbrained blue tang on a quest to reunite with her long-lost family.

The video shows a younger Dory trying to find her family (“Where did you see them last?” she’s asked, and replies, “…I forgot.”) before getting picked up by humans and taken to a marine life institute in the present. Nemo and Marlin join her there, where they meet a new host of characters as Dory tries to find her parents.

Directed by Finding Nemo‘s Andrew Stanton, Finding Dory also stars Albert Brooks as Marlin (reprising his role from the first film), Hayden Rolence as Nemo (taking over for a now grown-up Alexander Gould), Idris Elba and Dominic West as a pair of lazy sea lions, Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy as Dory’s parents, Ed O’Neill as a humorless seven-armed octopus, and Ty Burrell as a helpful snub-nosed beluga whale.

During a recent interview with EW, DeGeneres talked about making the leap from supporting player to main character.

“It’s not that I felt pressure about it, but it gave me more to do with the acting,” she said. “I mean, she’s funny, but she’s obviously very relatable, which is why people like Dory so much. She’s trying to find her family, and she is very emotional about wanting to belong, and I think that is easy for anybody to relate to.”

DeGeneres continued, “Whatever you define family as, family is just a part of belonging to something that takes care of you and nurtures you … and when you have lost that, and you want to get that back, it’s pretty easy to get emotional about it.”
