Being #GenderSmart Is Great For Your Team And Business

In 2016, Teleperformance in India launched their #GenderSmart initiative focused on the equal representation of women and men across spheres, levels and processes right across the company. The initiative has been a huge success with the team and has been noticed internationally, but this was not just an initiative focused on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) - being #GenderSmart makes good business sense too.

Take a look at this blog by Parul Singh from our team in India. Parul lists many advantages such as being able to access a bigger pool of talent, improved scalability and growth potential, improved ideas and innovation, and more engaged employees. Being #GenderSmart is clearly the right thing to do for everyone on the team, but these business benefits mean that there is no reason why all companies should not be focused on similar initiatives.

I was thinking about the Teleperformance experience when I read about the gender pay gap research published earlier this month for the UK. Companies with 250 or more employees now must publish salary data by April 2018. Over 500 companies have already published their information and this wave of transparency has been revealing.

Some of the worst disparities so far seem to be in the retail sector and this BBC report estimates that, across all companies, men are paid 10.7% more than women.

Just like our team in India, the global Teleperformance group is committed to gender equality in hiring procedures, training, salary levels, promotion opportunities, and across all other areas of our business. As a company with over 250 employees in the UK Teleperformance UK will also have to publish our details and I will share these when they are finalised.

At Teleperformance we are focused on delivering a fantastic customer experience for our clients and that requires happy and engaged employees. That means being #GenderSmart is just a common sense approach - for the team and the business.

A very positive initiative, just wondering though why it is taking so long for most companies including TP to publish given the legislation was enacted in early Aoril 2017.
