HYDERABAD: The south-west monsoon is at its best so far this year. Hyderabad has recorded an excess rainfall of a considerable 62 per cent and Andhra Pradesh has recorded an excess rainfall of 32 per cent.
Officials from the MET department said that the city has already received 41 cm rainfall, which is half of its annual normal rainfall of 80 cm.
Moreover, as against last year's delayed and deficient monsoon, the state stands tall among the southern states in receiving excess rainfall.
While in 2009, all the three regions in the state had received deficient rainfall during same duration last year. This time around the monsoon story is different, say officials.
The rainfall statistics up to July 7 indicate that monsoon this year is twice as good as last year's. As per MET department's data, Telangana has recorded 206 mm rainfall which is in excess by 24 per cent given that its normal rainfall rating is 182 mm.
Coastal AP has recorded 210 mm so far, which is in excess by 54 per cent of its normal rating of 137 mm. Rayalseema too has crossed its normal rainfall rating of 76 mm by recording 41 per cent higher rainfall this year at 117 mm.
Between Sunday night and Monday 8.30 am, Hyderabad recorded 2 cm rainfall while the highest rainfall of 8 cm was recorded at Khammam. "The state has benefited from the low pressure systems formed this year. Last year, delayed monsoon coupled with cyclone Eila contributed to a deficient monsoon," said R V Subba Rao, assistant meteorologist, met department.
