PSAL softball playoffs: Staten Island teams set for Thursday's A quarterfinals

Five Staten Island teams will be competing in PSAL A softball quarterfinals on Thursday, including a pair of all-Island games.

Defending city champion Tottenville (18-1), the top seed, will host No. 9 New Dorp (13-6); No. 2 Susan Wagner (15-4) will entertain No. 10 Curtis (13-6) and No. 5 Port Richmond (15-4) will be visiting No. 4 HS of Construction at Smokey Oval Park in Queens.

The other quarterfinal contest pits No. 6 Bronx Science at No. 3 James Madison in Brooklyn.

All games begin at 4 p.m.

Thursday's winners will square off in the semifinals at the College of Staten Island on Saturday with the championship game slated for June 7 at St. John's University in Queens (1 p.m.).

The teams in the all-Island match-ups will be playing each other for the third time this season.

Tottenville upended New Dorp 18-6 (April 27) and 5-2 (May 8).

Ashley Notaro (5 for 10, 6 runs, RBI), Kacey Rosa (5 for 8, 2 runs, 5 RBI, 2 3Bs, 2B) and Jamie Holmes (3 for 6, 2 runs, 3 RBI) were among Tottenville's hottest hitters while Jackie O'Leary (5 for 7, 2 runs, 2B, 3B) and Cassandra DiPietro (3 for 7, run) turned in strong outings in the two regular-season contests.

Tottenville's Tea Panagakos and New Dorp's Gabriella Salvador squared off in the pitcher's circle during the regular season.

Curtis, meanwhile, handed Wagner two of its three losses during the regular season, including 6-5 (March 29) and 8-3 (May 8).

Taylor Jones (3 for 7, 2 runs, 3 RBI, 2B, 3B) and Amanda Neenan (4 for 6, 2 runs, RBI) were among Curtis' best producers while Jessica Barbaria (3 for 7, run, 2 RBI, 2 2Bs) and Sam Lynagh (4 for 7, 2 runs, 3 RBI) had the hot bats for Wagner.

Curtis' Neenan was the starting hurler in both contests while Samantha D'Alessio and Samantha Lynagh each started a game for the Falcons.

Port Richmond, meanwhile, is led offensively by Lily Russo (.491 batting average, 18 RBI), Nancy Revilla (.471), Alexa Venditti (17 RBI) and Nicole Revilla (16 RBI).

Russo was the pitcher in each of the previous three playoff games.

Construction is 1-2 against PSAL competition this season, with a win over McKee/Staten Island Tech and losses to Tottenville and Wagner.
