Norwegian backs down on takeaway food ban

Monday, 27 May, 2015 0

Norwegian Cruise Line has reversed its ban on guests taking food back to their cabins after negative feedback from customers.

It will take effect immediately, Norwegian president Andy Stuart said, who added that the level of opposition to the takeaway ban had taken the company by surprise.

Many had argued it was an attempt to force customers to pay the newly established $7.95 room service fee for the privilege of eating in the room, but the company insists the original decision was made to clean up corridors of dishes and trays left by customers and improve the passenger experience.

"It’s another good example of how we listen to customer feedback and act on it," Stuart said.

He said more regular inspections of the corridors will take place so dishes are removed quicker.
