FlexJobs Announces Military Spouse Employment Partnership with Department of Defense

FlexJobs is furthering its commitment to helping military spouses find professional, flexible work by partnering with the Department of Defense as an official Military Spouse Employment Partner (MSEP).

The Military Spouse Employment Partnership is a key initiative of the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program.

According to the MSEP, “The shared goal of the Military Spouse Employment Partnership and the Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program is to ensure spouses have the opportunities and connections they need to obtain a satisfying career and receive wages commensurate with their level of training, work experience, accomplishments and credentials.”

The Military Spouse Employment Partnership in particular works to “strengthen the education and career opportunities of military spouses by providing:

  • Career exploration opportunities to help them understand their skills, interests, and goals
  • verified jobs graphic

With a 24% unemployment rate and a 25% wage gap compared to their civilian counterparts, military spouses are a segment of the population that struggle to find work. Frequent relocations often make it difficult to secure and maintain office-based work. FlexJobs’ own survey found that almost half of military spouses have felt job search discrimination, 91% said being a military spouse has had a negative impact on their career, and 32% have had to leave a job at least three times because of a military-related move.

Flexible and remote jobs can be key in closing the unemployment and wage gap rates, and FlexJobs has worked hard to provide resources and job opportunities for military spouses. This partnership with MSEP is a natural fit for our mission of assisting military spouses.

FlexJobs is joining more than 390 partners that have committed to recruit, hire, promote, and retain military spouses. Fellow FlexJobs employer partners that are also a part of the MSEP initiative include Hilton, Dell, and the National Association of State Workforce Agencies.

To help continue the conversation, FlexJobs also spoke at the 2019 Veterans Conference on August 9 in Washington, DC, about the impact of remote jobs for military spouses.

FlexJobs is proud to support MSEP as an employer partner to bring remote and flexible jobs to military spouses. If you’re an employer looking for more information on how to partner with FlexJobs to connect with military spouse talent, we’d be happy to connect. We partner with companies in a variety of verticals to offer jobs in more than 50 categories. Discover a better way to recruit remote talent!
