A Cambridge-based manufacturer of towels has admitted to not following regulations in connection with an incident which left a worker with serious hand injuries.

Last May, a worker at Cambridge Towel Company suffered partial amputation of their fingers, as well as bone and tissue damage, after their hand became caught in a roller machine.

According to the Ministry of Labour, the worker was wiping the front of the machine with a sponge while it was running – despite provincial regulations calling for it to be stopped before any cleaning.

Tuesday, company representatives appeared in a Kitchener courtroom, where the company was fined $50,000.
