Ryan Uhl Named First Team All-American, Austin Mock Receives Honorable Mention Honors

DALLAS – IUP first baseman Ryan Uhl (St. Marys, Pa./St. Marys) has been named to the first team of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) 2015 All-America Team, which was announced on Thursday evening. Teammate Austin Mock (State College, Pa./State College) was named an honorable mention outfielder.

Uhl is the first player from IUP since Paul Bingham in 2010 to earn first team All-American honors. He's one of only two players from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) on the first team, joining Seton Hill third baseman Nick Sell.

A total of 10 players from PSAC schools earned first, second, third team or honorable mention recognition. Joining Uhl and Mock were four players from Millersville and two more from Seton Hill, including Sell, one from Slippery Rock, and former IUP shortstop Dylan Tice (Perkasie/Pennridge), who is now at West Chester.

Uhl was a consensus first team All-Atlantic Region selection, earning nods by the NCBWA, the American Baseball Coaches Association, and Daktronics (sports information directors). As of May 18, the senior leads Division II in four categories – 29 home runs, 0.66 home runs per game, 1.68 runs batted in per game, and a 1.085 slugging percentage.

His home runs and slugging percentage totals, in addition to his 74 runs batted in and 154 total bases were all single season IUP records. He also batted .415 with 59 hits, 53 runs scored and 33 walks in 44 games.

Uhl ends his career as IUP's all-time home run leader with 42. He also tops the school charts with a .646 career slugging percentage, and is third with 147 RBI and 339 total bases, sixth with 126 runs scored and seventh with 177 hits.

Mock teamed with Uhl to make arguably the best hitting combination in the Atlantic Region. The outfielder finished the year second in school history with 16 home runs and a .756 slugging percentage, and also ranks third with 118 total bases, sixth with 50 RBI and seventh with 50 runs scored.

He also earned all-region recognition by three different outlets, landing on the NCBWA and ABCA first teams and the Daktronics' second team. One of the most experienced players in IUP history, Mock played in 172 career games, tied for fifth all-time. He's also tied for second in program history with 24 home runs, and fourth with 38 doubles and a .579 slugging percentage.
