Custer man flees meth lab during search; SSCENT arrests him

SHERMAN TWP. — A 27-year-old Custer man, who fled from SSCENT detectives during a search warrant at a meth lab in the 3700 block of Sugar Grove Road Monday April 27, was quickly apprehended and arrested on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine and operating/maintaining a laboratory involving methamphetamine.

“Upon executing the search warrant, a 27-year-old Custer man fled out the rear of an outbuilding,” a State Sheriffs Chiefs Enforcement Narcotics Team press release states. “The male was quickly apprehended and has been lodged in the Mason County Jail. During the execution of the search warrant, several items used in the production of methamphetamine were located inside of the home.”

Meth production involves the use of hazardous materials and requires specially-trained technicians to clean up the site. Members of the Michigan State Police Methamphetamine Enforcement Team responded to the scene to dismantle the laboratory and remove the hazardous materials from the residence.

SSCENT detectives were assisted by the Central Michigan Enforcement Team (CMET), troopers from the Michigan State Police Hart Post, the canine unit of the Mason County Sheriff’s Department and the Fountain Area Fire Department.
