Minor injuries reported in rollover; child ejected

April 27, 2015

Oceana EMSHART — A 2004 Chrysler Pacifica sport utility vehicle transporting at least six people Saturday evening, April 25, flipped over on Oceana Drive near the Hart Animal Clinic, ejecting a child from the rear door.

Only minor injuries were reported in the 8:12 p.m. crash, said Hart Police Chief Dan Leimback, with three people being transported by Oceana County EMS to Mercy Health Lakeshore Campus in Shelby. There were no visible injuries, but the three who were transported to the hospital complained of pain, he said.

A witness told police he saw the SUV, which was northbound, swerve when it went in the soft sand on the road’s shoulder; it flipped over; and the rear door opened, ejecting the child. The SUV, which was driven by a 33-year-old Hart woman, just missed hitting the child, the chief said. It appears that the child was not wearing a seatbelt, Leimback said. No citations were issued in the crash.

The Hart post of the Michigan State Police and the Hart Area Fire Department also responded to the scene.
