Staten Island college and pro athletes do well at Penn Relays

Over the course of the week, several athletes with Staten Island ties competed at the 121st Penn Relays.

Farrell alum Cory Duggan competing for the University of Connecticut tied for third overall in the College Pole Vault Championship, clearing a height of 17-0 3/4.

Former Susan Wagner strongman Blerim Pocesta took third in the College Men's Hammer Throw with a 202-2 throw.

The Wagner women took 21st in the Women's College 4x800 with Kelly Pereira (2:17.22), Victoria Spector (2:22.76), Emily Pereira (2:14.11) and Lorraine Brancale (2:20.28) combining for a time of 9:14.35. Also in that race was former Advance All Star out of St. John Villa, Dominique Claudio who split 2:09.07 for fourth-place Albany. Fifth-place St. John's had two strong legs from twin sisters Stephanie (2:10.93) and Michelle (2:16.13) Van Pelt.

Wagner College went 7:57.27 in the College Men's 4x800 relay, with Timothy Mendez (2:00.02), Joseph Abbatiello (1:59.84), Darius Moulton (1:55.32) and Quincy Rasin (2:02.10) comprising the squad. Farrell alumnus Alex LoPresti ran a 1:53.03 third leg for seventh-place Stony Brook (7:36.39) in the same race.

Sea graduate Adam Civitano competed Friday in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles for Auburn, running 54.75. Liam Vogt, also formerly of Sea competed in the college men's long jump for Monmouth, taking 22nd with a mark of 22-9.

Jesse Carlin running professionally for Pacers New Balance ran 4:51.29 for 10th place in the women's Olympic development Mile.

Notre Dame grad Pariis Garcia anchored St. John's University's 4x200 relay, which took third in the ECAC race in 1:37.63. Garcia doubled as part of the Red Storm's 3:44.87 4x400m relay, which took seventh.
