Met dept hints at city's first rain after monsoon
CHANDIGARH: The city’s residents may soon experience the first showers of the post-monsoon season as the meteorological department has predicted a spell of thundershowers in the next 24 hours. Over a few days, smog has already started making its presence felt in the region in the wee hours as western disturbances are approaching.
‘The contents of dust particles with low temperature are producing smog.
Generally, thick fog occurs when the temperature falls below the 10 degree celsius mark. These days, smog is occurring due to western disturbances, that are making their appearance in the region again,’ said a senior meteorological officer.
‘The western disturbance movement is largely low in the post-monsoon season as compared to the monsoon this year. It might lead to thundershowers, which may in turn cause a fall in minimum temperature,’the officer added. The forecast issued by the Chandigarh meteorological department on Thursday stated that rainfall might occur due to movement of western disturbance.
