Current sweeps away elderly woman in Hendricks County

“Doris Martin epitomized the term “Community Servant”. She touched thousands of children through her years of teaching and more recently as the School Marm for the One Room School House.  Her dedication to the students, not only in our school district, but also to the many that came from through out the state to attend the One Room School House was second to none.  She was able to bring history to life in a way few can.  Her dedication to her church and the youth there was exemplary of what a Christian should be.  You could find Doris and her husband Ernie at about any community event supporting those who gave back to and supported our community. Also, she served as Grand Marshall at our Fall Homecoming Parade this year representing the dedicated educators who have come and gone and those who are still here in our school corporation.  Because of the nature of our community there will be others who step up and do some of the work that Doris dedicated her life to. However, she can never be replaced. Her passing has left a hole in the hearts of many in our community.  She will be missed beyond what words can describe.”
