Three Cave Story audio treats

image

Since Nicalis’ Cave Story WiiWare update release two days ago – which fixed critical issues with the game’s music (while addressing other bugs and adding GameCube controller support) – I’ve seen several items pop up about its audio. They’re not super-secrets or mind-blowingly awesome, but I gathered the audio treats, much like Quote collected those puppies, for you in this post!:

  1. You can access a sound test feature in the WiiWare game by opening the Options menu, highlighting the New/Old music option, and hitting ‘1’ or '2’ on the Wii Remote (or Classic/GameCube controller equivalents) to cycle through the soundtrack. You can do this for both the original and remixed music.
  1. Unseen64 posted a collection of screens from the beta PC versions of Cave Story, revealing areas, interface elements, and other details that didn’t make it in the final game. Check out the image above for an early Balrog and hints of an unused “cion” currency. The site also posted an old version of a music player (ZIP file, Windows-only) for the game’s soundtrack.
  2. The game’s title theme apparently goes well with the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air rap!

The latter half of the song, which features the lyrics that you had no idea existed, doesn’t stay on the beat so much, but I’m amazed that even a part of it syncs up!
