Being there for their kids, day in and day out, is a major motivator for many people who are considering a remote job to boost quality family time. Often, job seekers have found that traditional work schedules make it hard to have the flexibility needed to attend important family events, or to be available when emergencies arise.

We were thrilled to hear that Joann H., the subject of this week’s success story about a working mom with a remote job, was able to use her FlexJobs membership to find meaningful, full-time remote work that has allowed her to spend more time with her two young children. A resident of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Joann told FlexJobs that her wish for a remote job to spend more quality time with her children prompted her search. “I wanted to be more available to them,” Joann wrote in response to a series of questions. “Having an 8-5 job just didn’t give me enough time to watch them grow up.”

The familiar pressures associated with being a mom who worked full-time outside of the home was another factor in her job search, Joann said. “I found myself stressed out from all the rushing around and I only got to spend time with them on the weekends—a common situation for many working parents,” she told us.

That feature alone provided quite a different experience compared to other websites. “Searching for flexible jobs on other sites normally produced only sales jobs or scams,” Joann wrote. “I wanted something that utilized my skill set.”

Joann’s advice for other job seekers sounds a familiar refrain that’s well worth repeating. “Be patient and diligent,” she counsels. “There are a lot of people looking for more flexible working conditions, but the jobs are out there.”
