Can you Drive and do Burnouts with Plywood Truck Rims?

Plywood Truck Rims

Of course you can!

We all know that tires and wheels can be made out of a variety of materials for cars, trucks, SUVs, and other vehicles. Rubber, steel, aluminum, and even magnesium have been used for wheels and tires for decades. We even know that Fred Flintstone used rock for his wheels. But, can plywood be used for truck rims and tires? Let’s find out.

The folks at The Hoonigans in Scumbag Labs have been wondering just that for quite some time so they decided to do just that with their custom Ford F-150. The team took sheets of plywood and cut out three terribly imperfect circles to use for truck rims.

The team decided on five ply plywood that was glued together and left to set overnight. The next morning, eight holes were drilled and hubs were installed to make their custom plywood truck rims for the F-150.

After installing, they set out for Fifteen52’s headquarters where they set up shop to do burnouts. Sure enough, those plywood truck rims did some smoky burnouts that made it smell like a campfire. So, they guys decided to turn things up a notch and put gasoline on the plywood for fiery burnouts. Then they did burnouts in second gear, third gear, fourth gear, and reverse because why not?

The very scientific findings were that you can make wheels out of plywood, and no, they do not have a lot of grip at all.
