3. Philips, Teva launch Israeli medtech incubator
Royal Philips’ healthcare business and Teva Pharmaceuticals will invest more than $25 million into a technology incubator they’ve launched in Israel for medical device and drug development.
They’ll focus on seeding companies developing medical technology that can complement drug development, according to Israel’s Globes newspaper. Read more
2. Medtech execs: We’ll step up hiring if the medical device tax is repealed
Repealing the job-killing medical device tax will serve as job creator, a survey of medical device executives revealed today.
The poll of 100 medtech executives by the Medical Device Manufacturers Assn. showed that 85% would add new jobs in the U.S. should the 2.3% medical device excise tax be repealed. About 72% of the executives said that their companies had either cut jobs or halted hiring as a result of the tax, which went into effect 2 years ago. Read more
1. Former Medtronic worker sues company, police over arrest in bomb threat hoax
A former Medtronic employee is suing police, the city of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and the company itself for allegedly implicating him in a pair of hoax bomb threats phoned in to Medtronic 2 years ago.
Chia Doua Yang alleges that a pair of supervisors fingered him as a suspect during the police investigation of the January 2013 bomb threats, leading to his arrest and detention for 2 nights, according to Yang’s complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for Minnesota. Read more
