What our fashion editors are buying for Christmas

This article is more than 9 years old

What should you buy for the fashionista in your life if your budget doesn’t stretch to Chanel? Here, the Guardian’s fashion team share their affordable festive solutions

Playing Santa is one of my favourite things to do and my modus operandi when shopping for presents is to purchase things the recipient probably wouldn’t buy themselves. I think posh hair accessories fit the bill here, whether they’re really posh – ie Chanel – or something more silly but still with style pedigree, like a Katie Hillier bunny for £35. Small, perfectly formed and excellent for anyone who doesn’t ditch fun in pursuit of fashion. Lauren Cochrane

Here’s my top tip when buying for the fashionable people in your life: if you can’t afford something with the right name on it (Chanel, Alexander Wang, Hermes, Rolex spring to mind) then buy something with *their* name on it. Everyone loves a personalised piece. If you can’t stretch to an initialled Burberry throw, here are two cute fashion gifts. At Johnstons of Elgin, cashmere fingerless gloves are £25, and can be embroidered with initials for £5 per letter. Soak & Sleep have brushed cotton PJs which can come with initials on the breast pocket for £45.95. The only question is: your initials ... or theirs? Jess Cartner-Morley

To be honest, I don’t see why you should wait until Christmas to buy up the monochrome Karl Lagerfeld on Net-a-Porter collection in its entirety. But in keeping with the spirit of things, the first three rows come under my christmas present budget. My top picks are the bumbag – very 2014/5 and TDF, ditto the towel which is cool and chic and a lot cheaper than its Chanel counterpart. If anyone’s reading this and feeling a bit skint, I’d happily take the iPhone case too. Morwenna Ferrier

If ever bling is an appropriate gift, it’s at Christmas. And so I will be bestowing this Isabel Marant ear cuff – as good a piece of jewellery as you’ll find for £30 (or £40 for a pair in gold or silver-tone) – which can be worn on lobe or cartilage or conch, according to the taste, no piercings required. For those whose tastes are glitizer, and sillier, this melting Marc Jacobs phone cover case will raise a smile. Hannah Marriott
