Microsoft to use Windows 10-focused Snapdragon 1000 chip for foldable Surface Phone?
According to a report out of Germany, Microsoft and Qualcomm are working together on the ARM based SDM1000 chip (Snapdragon 1000?) that is designed to work on more powerful Windows notebooks and 2-in-1 devices. In other words, this could be the chip that drives the foldable Surface Phone device that we've seen in patent sketches and renders. The SDM1000 would compete against Intel's Y and U processor series.

The report notes that the SDM1000 measures 20mm x 15mm, which is large compared to the 12.4mm x 12.4mm size of the Snapdragon 835, 845 and upcoming 855 Mobile Platforms. It still would be smaller than the 45mm x 24mm size of an Intel core processor.

A job description posted by a Qualcomm employee on LinkedIn states that he manages testing of Qualcomm's "premium tier chipset SDM845 and SDM1000 for desktop, Andromeda, and Hololens." If we assume (which is always a dangerous risk, we know) that this is legit, we still are left wondering whether the Andromeda project is actually a foldable phone/tablet, and whether it is the mythical Surface Phone.

The silence from Microsoft is deafening. In other words, the more silent the software giant is, the more it feels that something big is on the horizon.
