Call for calorie labels on alcohol to combat obesity

Health experts say alcohol should be labelled to show its calorie content.

The Royal Society for Public Health said 80% of adults questioned did not know a large glass of wine contains a similar number of calories to a doughnut.

The UK is one of the most obese nations in the world with about a quarter of adults classed as obese.

The drinks industry said it was open to the idea of calorie labels, but that labelling drinks with units of alcohol was more important.

Dominic Hughes reports.
