Put The Needle To The Groove With The Orchard’s 2018 Record Store Day Releases

Put The Needle To The Groove With The Orchard’s 2018 Record Store Day ReleasesIt’s the most wonderful time of the year! Record Store Day 2018 is upon us and whether it’s your first time with a turntable or you’ve been spinning LPs for decades, this year’s limited edition spread has something for everybody. As always, The Orchard is all in with exciting small-batch presses for super-fans and collectors alike.

Every year, the Record Store Day committee names an official ‘Ambassador’ to herald the year’s holiday. This artist is someone that values the importance and tradition of the vinyl record, but also uses the format in progressive, modern ways. Past Ambassadors include Annie Clark aka St. Vincent, Jack White, Metallica and more. This year, Run The Jewels earned the title, a natural designation for one of the baddest duos in hip-hop. To celebrate, RTJ is offering 5,000 metal box sets, which include a 12” EP on etched clear vinyl with custom Marvel Comics branded artwork. The limited run set also comes with a custom RTJ turntable slip mat with images on both sides, a collectible poster and a sticker set for the kids.

Also on the hip-hop tip, the one-and-only Nas is teaming up with Mass Appeal Records to put out one of the most unique releases of RSD ’18: illmatic: Live From The Kennedy Center. Critically acclaimed as a staple in rap music, Nas recorded a reimagined version of illmatic with the National Symphony Orchestra as a live performance at The Kennedy Center in Washington DC. For this Record Store Day exclusive, you’ll be able to pick up the double LP on 180 gram vinyl decked out in gold embossing, accompanied by a poster, event photos and more.

Austin retro-synth quartet S U R V I V E also announced a first-time release for Record Store Day 2018. Home to Stranger Things scorers Michael Stein and Kyle Dixon, S U R V I V E’s knack for beautiful vintage tone is unmatched, making the band’s live show something to behold. For that reason, the team at Relapse Records is treating fans with nine new live studio recordings from the band’s BBC Peel Session via 12″ LP.

Find out if your local store is participating in RSD ’18 here and be there on April 21 to grab these exclusives and more. See a full list of The Orchard’s Record Store Day releases below and check out the full offering on the Record Store Day website. Happy shopping!
