Monday Sector Laggards: Technology & Communications, Services

Looking at the sectors faring worst as of midday Monday, shares of Technology & Communications companies are underperforming other sectors, not showing much of a gain. Within the sector, Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) and Xilinx (NASD: XLNX) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 1.4% and 1.4%, respectively. Among technology ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX: XLK), which is up 0.1% on the day, and up 13.24% year-to-date. Juniper Networks, meanwhile, is up 5.05% year-to-date, and Xilinx, is down 7.82% year-to-date. Combined, JNPR and XLNX make up approximately 0.6% of the underlying holdings of XLK.

The next worst performing sector is the Services sector, up 0.1%. Among large Services stocks, GameStop (NYSE: GME) and Cablevision Systems (NYSE: CVC) are the most notable, showing a loss of 2.2% and 2.0%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Services stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Services ETF (IYC), which is up 0.2% in midday trading, and up 5.22% on a year-to-date basis. GameStop, meanwhile, is down 13.52% year-to-date, and Cablevision Systems is up 2.73% year-to-date. Combined, GME and CVC make up approximately 0.3% of the underlying holdings of IYC.
