Manny Pacquiao News Update: Filipino 'Boxing Congressman' Now A Professional Basketball Player, Will Coach His First Team After Algieri Bout

Remember the first time you discovered Manny Pacquiao ran for congress in his home town in the Philippines? You may get a similar response with the latest news update on the former pound-for-pound king.

In the recently-held Philippine Basketball Association Rookie Draft, the 34-year-old boxer was picked 11th overall which means we'll be seeing more of Pacquiao, not just inside the ring or in the news, but inside the court.

The reigning WBO Super Welterweight champion will serve as a playing coach for the PBA's newest team, KIA Motors, and it looks like all the teams have agreed to pass on Pacquiao just for him to be picked by the team where he'll be playing.

In the past previous years, we have come to know the Filipinos' love for basketball, and even the greatest Filipino boxer who ever lived also love to play the game. In fact, playing basketball has been among the sessions Team Pacquiao included in his training camp to increase his stamina.

We just didn't think that he would push it too far.

As now a professional basketball player, Pacquiao will need to juggle all his responsibilities and extra-curricular activities in order to match the biggest fighter he's ever fought since Antonio Margarito.

Chris Algieri may be the underdog in this bout, but we should remember that this is exactly the position he was in when he was about to face brawler Ruslan Provodnikov of Russia.

He managed to survive and bounce back from three first round knockdowns, en route to a split decision to capture the 'Siberian Rocky's' super lightweight belt.

Pacquiao better take care of business in Macau as Top Rank boss Bob Arum stated recently that he is confident of a Mayweather-Pacquiao bout early next year. The report follows the exit of Richard Schaefer from Golden Boy Promotions which could mean better ties between GBP and TR.

However, such a mega-bout may not get too much attention if Pacquiao loses to Algieri.
