Weekly Watch Focus: Mighty God—Full of Mercy

FRIDAY, August 15, At this hour, we are seeing the massacre of thousands of innocent Christians, Yazidis, and Shiites in Iraq as the monstrous terrorist army of the Islamic State (formerly known as ISIS) is advancing through vast portions of Northern Iraq. Some say that such evil has not been seen for two thousand years. At the same time, Israel has had to suffer a continuous barrage of thousands of rockets loaded with shrapnel fired by the terrorist forces of Hamas from Gaza. Hundreds of thousands of Christians have been displaced from Syria. Iran is nearing completion of its plans to have nuclear weapons.  Russian forces seem to be preparing to invade the Ukraine. At home, St. Louis, Missouri is being torn by riots. The U.S. border with Mexico is collapsing with thousands coming across without hindrance. We could continue this list on and on.

In the midst of a world in major turmoil, we echo the prayer to the Lord of King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20: “For we have no power against this great multitude, nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.” God’s answer through His prophet was, “Do not be afraid nor dismayed…position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you.” Then the praisers lifted their voices with loud praise, declaring the Lord’s great mercies. When they worshiped and sang His praises, God sent His victory, defeating the enemy multitudes.

Let us turn our eyes to the Lord on behalf of all these global, national, and personal needs, declaring the praises of the Lord with all our might. He is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of Mercy.
“Praise the Lord, for His mercy endures Forever!” 2 Chron. 20:21

Heb. 4:16, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

Ps. 86:13, “For great is Your mercy toward me, and You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.”

Ex. 33:19, “Then He said, ‘I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.’”

Ps. 119:132, “Look upon me and be merciful to me, as Your custom is toward those who love Your name.”

Ps. 107:6,7, “Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses.”

2 Cor. 10:3-6; Ex. 29:6;  Is. 54:7-8, 10; Deut. 7:9
