Tiger Woods hopeful despite poor putting

Tiger Woods is not giving up hope at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, after a one-over-par 71 second round.

The world number 10 is playing just his sixth PGA Tour tournament of 2014, and sits tied for 25th - well behind overall leader Sergio Garcia.

Woods is at one under, 10 shots behind Garcia, and the American remained hopeful of contending, although he was speaking prior to Garcia's fast finish - which took the Spaniard three shots clear.

"I'm only seven [now 10] back. That's plenty doable on this golf course over the weekend," Woods said.

"With the weather coming in tomorrow, I don't know what we're going to do, but I'll be ready."

Woods said his putting abandoned him at the Firestone Country Club, a place the 14-time major winner has reigned on eight occasions.

"If I would have putted like I did yesterday, which is just normal, it's a two, three under round," he said.

"But I missed a bunch of putts under 15 feet, and they weren't even close, that's the problem.

"It's not like they had the go in look. They just weren't very good."

Despite high expectations, Woods kept his comeback in perspective - as he is just into his third tournament since back surgery.

"Hey, this is supposed to be my second tournament back, not my third. Everything's going pretty good. I've gotten a little bit better, and the good news is I'm still getting stronger," Woods said.

"I've still got a long way to go as far as my strength and explosiveness compared to what I'm used to feeling, but all that's coming around."
