EUGENE, Ore. (EMUEagles.com)
--Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team had reason to celebrate along with the USA Junior National team Sunday, July 27, as sophomore athlete Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio-Findlay) was a member of the winning 4x400m relay team at the 2014 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Junior Championships, earning his first gold medal in international competition.

The Findlay, Ohio native also competed in the individual 400m dash earlier in the week, taking eighth after a terrific campaign in the preliminary and semifinal heats.  He capped off his 2014 outdoor track season with a win for his country along with Michael Cherry, Josephus Lyles, and Ricky Morgan to cross the line in 3:03.31.  Brown ran the second leg of the relay, clocking in at a 45.5-second split.  The team set a world junior leading mark for the season and was joined on the podium by Japan in second, with an Asian junior record in 3:04.11, and Jamaica in third at 3:04.47.  The relay team won the seventh straight gold for the Americans in the event along with the 13th win in World Juniors history.

The performance helped Team USA dominate at the IAAF World Championships as the nation's juniors tallied the most medals in team history with a combined 21 awards throughout the six-day event.  Overall, the Americans amassed 11 gold medals to lead all countries and scored a whopping 206 points.  Kenya took second in scoring, trailing by a considerable margin with 82 points.

As the IAAF World Junior Championships has come to a close, so has Brown's outstanding rookie season.  He will take a well-deserved break before hitting the track once more in the winter, when the 2014-15 track and field season lifts its lid in search of a pair of Mid-American Conference titles.
