NASCAR Sprint Cup Series regular and Nationwide Series legend Kyle Busch saved his best for last in qualifying Saturday afternoon at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. As he came across the line with ten seconds remaining to make his final run, he posted a new track record when he crossed the bricks again.

Cup Series regular Matt Kenseth in the #20 did have the provisional pole before Busch took his Monster Energy #54 to the pole late on.

Rookie Ty Dillon in the #3 car who is also one of the Dash4Cash drivers this weekend will start in 3rd place on the second row for Saturday night's race alongside Cup Series driver Kevin Harvick. Points leader Chase Elliott in the #9 car will be in 5th, with former points leader Regan Smith in the #7 car in 7th.

Round one, which was 25 minutes long, began with a number of drivers going out on track and Dillon was the quickest early on. With five minute elapsed, Dillon reminded on point followed by Kenseth as 19 drivers had been on track with Blake Koch in 19th.

Elliott and Ragan began working together on their runs, as they are teammates, and it resulted in Elliott jumping to 5th place to split the batch of Cup Series drivers on the board. Smith went 14th as he did not have the draft.

With ten minutes gone Dillon, Kenseth, Joey Logano, Busch, and Paul Menard made up the top five with Jeremy Clements on the bubble in 24th and J.J. Yeley just outside in 25th as 40 cars had made a run with veteran Mike Bliss in 40th.

At the halfway point, there was no change to any of the top positions and the same drivers remained in the top 24. Dillon's time to put him first was a 50.263 second lap, 179.058 mph speed.

With five minutes remaining, Jeremy Clements went to make his second run but the tram brought him back down pit lane as there was smoke coming from the right rear which was a brake issue for the #14 car.

Three minutes were left when Yeley jumped into the top 24 in 23rd and knocked Clements out into 25th and put Ryan Sieg on the bubble.

When the clock expired the top five were Dillon, Kenseth, Logano, Busch, and Menard. Sieg was the last driver to advance to round two as Clements just missed out and Tommy Joe Martins, who didn't make a run, and Brendan Lepage missed tonight's race due to their positions on the chart.

Round two began with Dillon being the first driver out on the track again. After the first batch of drivers had posted a time, Dillon was best with a 50.63 second lap time after he got a pull from David Ragan in the #98 car.

Seven minutes were left as Harvick went to the top of the board and Kenseth was in 2nd with points leader Elliott was in 5th place.

At the half way mark the top five were Logano, Busch, Harvick, Menard and Kenseth - all of which are Sprint Cup Series drivers. Trevor Bayne was on the bubble in 12th.

With two and a half minutes left, Chad Boat was the last driver to make his run in round two and his lap time put him into 21st position on the board.

As the clock expired on the second of the three rounds, the top 12 to advance were Logano, Busch, Harvick, Menard, Kenseth, Scott, Smith, Dillon, Elliott, C. Buescher, Sadler, and Bayne. Sprint Cup Series rookie Kyle Larson missed out as he was 14th, rookie Ryan Reed was just outside in 13th, and Brendan Gaughan was 17th.

The third and final round was only five minutes in length. It meant that drivers had one chance to post a lap time. Dillon was top early on after his run, but Kenseth went top with a 50.304 second lap with two and a half minutes left.

With two minutes left, the top five were Kenseth, Dillon, Harvick, Elliott, and Logano. However, teammates Sadler and Busch were yet to make a run.

They came on track with one minute remaining and just made it around to the start finish line to post a lap. Sadler went 11th, but Busch posted a new track record time of 50.031 seconds and took the Coors Light Pole Award for Saturday night's race.
