No More Strikers! – Wenger

Arsenal have moved swiftly to capture the highly-rated striker Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona to increase their attacking options for next season. Olivier Giroud was the only preferred striker last season and he suffered from burnout with Wenger not keen on Sanogo, Bendtner and Chu-Young.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for Mario Mandzukic and Loic Remy, but a deal for either player is not going to happen as they have signed for Atletico Madrid and Liverpool respectively. Bendtner and Chu-Young have been released and Wenger will rely on Giroud, Sanchez and Sanogo to do the business at the front end of the pitch for the London club next season.

The Frenchman has revealed that he will not be signing a new striker in this window, and is instead concentrating on getting a new centre-half. According to the Daily Star, he said, “Up front we don’t need any more, maybe I will still bring in one centre-back. I will bring in a goalkeeper for sure and we are still out there to strengthen our squad.”

He added, “You do the deals when it’s possible, this time we could do it early and I am very happy with what I have done until now. It’s easier to prepare, but we are not the only club who have done business.”

“Some other clubs have also done business – Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have bought great players and the competition should be interesting again next season.”

With Podolski and Walcott able to play up front as well, there is little need for the arrival of another striker at the Emirates Stadium.
