INDIANA, PA - IUP men's golf head coach Fred Joseph was named 2014 Golf Pride Grips Division II Atlantic Region Coach of the Year on Friday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

This is Joseph's eighth time obtaining the honor, and his fourth in the past seven years.

The award comes after the Crimson Hawks completed one of their best seasons as a program. The team made it to the quarterfinals of the match play round in the NCAA Division II championships for the first time in program history. IUP finished tied for seventh, which is its best finish at this event since finishing eighth in 1985.

Joseph's team took first place in the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional championship for the second consecutive year, and for the fourth time in seven years.

During the regular season, the Crimson Hawks won five of the 11 tournaments that they entered. Golfers Zack Kempa (Brantford, ON/Assumption College School), Max Kirsch (Ebensburg, Pa. /Central Cambria) and Kenneth Sames were named to All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams. Kempa and Kirsch were also named Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year respectively. Kempa and Sames also received All-American honors.

In 22 seasons, Joseph has led IUP to 77 tournament wins and brought his team to the NCAA championships 13 times. He has also coached a total of 13 All-Americans.
