Former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian is expected to leave a Las Vegas hospital soon after doctors performed a diagnostic procedure and determined no immediate surgical treatment was needed.
Tarkanian's son-in-law, Zafi Diamant, said the 83-year-old Tarkanian underwent a catheterization procedure Thursday morning. Diamant says no issues called for immediate attention, although other cardiologists are expected to review the findings from the procedure.
Diamant says he's hopeful that Tarkanian might be released as early as Friday.
Tarkanian was hospitalized last week after attending the Final Four in North Texas, complaining of weakness, lethargy and labored breathing. Doctors determined he had a heart attack.
A member of the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame, Tarkanian led three schools to the NCAA tournament, most famously the 1990 UNLV team that won a national title.
