GAME REPORT: The Angels lost a pair of games, allowing two runs in the ninth inning to lose 3-2 to the Chicago Cubs at Tempe Diablo Stadium. The other half of the Angels squad lost, 7-2, to the Colorado Rockies at Salt River Fields.

HITTING REPORT: Against the Cubs, 3B David Freese collected his first hit of the spring, snapping an 0-for-10 slump. … 1B C.J. Cron, who tied Thursday’s game with a ninth-inning homer, snapped a tie with an RBI single in the eighth. “C.J. is looking very comfortable at the plate,” Manager Mike Scioscia said. “The growth he’s had in the last year and a half of playing baseball is very noticeable.” … Against the Rockies, SS Andrew Romine hit a home run.

PITCHING REPORT: Against the Cubs, LHP Hector Santiago gave up just one hit in four scoreless innings on only 42 pitches. He had to go down to the bullpen to throw 15 more pitches to get his prescribed workload. “Last year it would be the second inning and I’d be at 40 pitches,” Santiago said. “I need to get quicker innings.” The Angels top five starters have allowed six earned runs in 25 innings so far this spring, a 2.16 ERA. … RHP Josh Wall gave up two runs in the ninth to take the loss, including an RBI double to Cubs top prospect Jorge Soler. … Against the Rockies, RHP Joe Blanton gave up seven runs on four homers in 3 1/3 innings.

DEFENSE REPORT: Against the Cubs, Freese made a nice barehand pickup of a drag bunt to get an out at first. … Against the Rockies, CF Collin Cowgill made a nice catch at the fence.
