THE GAME: The Angels’ three-game winning streak came to an end with a 4-2 loss to the San Diego Padres at Peoria Sports Complex.
PITCHING REPORT: LHP Tyler Skaggs threw more curveballs than in his previous two outings, showcasing his “go-to pitch.” While Skaggs was pleased with his stuff, the Padres hit a few balls hard, and a few other ground balls got through the infield, to the tune of eight hits and three runs in four innings. “He’s grown and he’s learning with every outing,” Manager Mike Scioscia said. “He’s ready for the challenge. He’s going to keep getting better. He’s not the finished product, but his stuff is good.”
HITTING REPORT: RF J.B. Shuck had three hits, including his third triple of the spring. … LF Matt Long lost an infield hit when the Padres challenged the play and replay showed he was out at first. It’s the second time this week that replay resulted in a play being overturned that went against the Angels.
DEFENSE REPORT: Shuck, who normally plays left field, misplayed a fly ball into a double. … 3B John McDonald, playing his first game of the spring at that position, made a nice backhand stop and then a throw across the diamond. 1B Carlos Pena had to make a difficult pick of the in-between hop to get the out. … McDonald made a nice snag of a one-hopper later in the game.
UP NEXT: Angels (Jered Weaver) vs. Rockies (Juan Nicasio), Saturday, Salt River Fields, 1 pm.
