ANAHEIM – A day after being traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks, former Angel slugger Mark Trumbo made a surprise appearance Wednesday afternoon at the Angels Foundation Kids Holiday Party at ESPNZone Downtown Disney.

Trumbo, who was dealt Tuesday as part of a three-team deal that brought the Angels pitchers Tyler Skaggs and Hector Santiago, joined Angels catcher Hank Conger, former Angels Adam Kennedy, Chuck Finley and Mark Langston, plus trainer Rick Smith and broadcasters Terry Smith and Jose Mota for the event.

Trumbo read from the children’s book “Must Be Santa,” shared holiday memories, signed autographs and posed for pictures for more than 200 children from the local Boys & Girls Clubs.

“No matter what the circumstances are, it was important for me to be here,” said Trumbo, a Villa Park High graduate and 2012 All-Star who has led the Angels in home runs for the past three seasons.

“I grew up 10 minutes from the ballpark and have been a part of this event for the past eight years,” he said. “Seeing how excited these kids get is all worth it.”
