Modern History Cedar shakes often call to mind days gone by. Today, this look continues to deliver classic appeal and now stands the test of time with new technology and treatments.

advisor for the homeowners who trusted him to build their dream home. This included a recommendation for the exterior.

An integral part of this specific home’s design is its cedar shake exterior. This is a very special aesthetic, with a historical, rustic look. Bill suggested the homeowners talk with Rick Jackson, owner of Carolina Machine Finishing (CMF).

“All of our products are coated on all six sides to prevent moisture infiltration, which then prevents cracking, peeling, and blistering,” says Rick. “This particular coating will weather nicely and increase the quality of the look over time, due to the faux finish.”

CMF was able to provide the cedar shake look with a product that outlasts traditional wood materials. “We provided some pre-primed materials for the interior and exterior,” explains Rick. “The exterior fiber cement shake siding was our primary contribution to this home. We custom tinted and faux finished the exterior sidewall fiber cement shakes to look like weathered wood.”
