The Angels haven’t lost a series in more than a month.
With Wednesday’s 3-1 matinee win over the Oakland Athletics at Angel Stadium, the Angels stretched their unbeaten series streak to 10. They’re 23-9 in their last 32 games, the best mark in baseball in that span.
Jered Weaver pitched the Angels to Wednesday’s win, throwing seven smooth innings of one-run ball. Oakland’s sixth-inning run, scored on a Jed Lowrie sacrifice fly, was the first A’s run off Weaver in 29 2/3 innings.
Dane De La Rosa and Ernesto Frieri pitched scoreless innings to finish things out, with Frieri earning his 37th save.
The Angels (78-80) got their offense in the fourth and fifth innings, first on a Josh Hamilton fielder’s choice that brought in Erick Aybar and then on Aybar and Hamilton singles bookended by a Kole Calhoun walk.
Both fifth-inning runs were unearned. The Angels finished the 2013 season with a 39-42 home record. They will do no worse on the road, and can secure an above-.500 record away from home with a split of the upcoming four-game series with the Texas Rangers.
Hamilton’s two hits raised his average to a season-high .248. The Angels have lost only 10 of the last 42 games in which he has driven in a run.
