• Fox Sports’ Jon Morosi looked like he scooped every Angels beat reporter, reporting in a series of tweets Aug. 23 the “Angels are expected to replace either general manager Jerry Dipoto or manager Mike Scioscia before start of next season, sources say.”

One minute later this tweet followed: “Philosophical differences exist between the men, and it has become increasingly apparent to organization that status quo is not tenable.’’

If we are in the business of holding players and managers accountable; how about our own colleagues?

I saw Morosi in Atlanta last week at the Dodgers’ game and asked if he had checked recently with his sources since we weren’t hearing anything from the Angels. He said he was in the process.

Unfortunately we know now, and my sources have confirmed it, Morosi’s sources were clueless.

It’s not enough to make a logical guess. And it’s never good to suggest a man is going to get fired and all the anxious moments and stress that follow for him and his loved ones unless you can name names and hold someone accountable later for such an egregious mistake.

I checked @jonmorosi, but no apology tweet yet.

• Meet Neanderthal man, Arizona GM Kevin Towers.

Towers told a Phoenix radio station he was irked because the Dodgers were having fun earlier this season. As everyone knows there is no fun in baseball.

He said he watched as Dodgers teammates fed Juan Uribe bananas because of his nickname, “King Kong,” after Uribe had three home runs off Diamondbacks pitchers.

“Literally, if I would have had a carton of baseballs, I would have fired them into the dugout from where I was sitting behind home plate,” said Towers.

Given Arizona’s pitchers’ ability to throw the ball where they want, I suspect none of the Dodgers would have been in harm’s way.

But then hopefully they would have still led off Towers in handcuffs.

Lane Kiffin texted to say he’s not talking to anyone now on the advice of his agent. And yet he said he’s going to appear on ESPN’s “GameDay” this Saturday before the Oregon-Washington game.

If he’s not talking and yet appearing on the ”GameDay” set, maybe he’s going to come dressed as a Duck when it comes time for Lee Corso to pick this week’s winner. He’s done goofier things.
