Cardiff Social Media Surgery success

This article is more than 13 years old
The first Cardiff Social Media Surgery saw local bloggers team up with those wanting to learn how to use social media for social good

Voluntary groups and charities in Cardiff came together yesterday for the first Social Media Surgery in the city.

Organised by myself and Ed Walker, more than 30 people turned up to The Plan to find out more about this original set up.

If you've never heard of a Social Media Surgery then check out this website which might give you some more information. The surgeries are a chance for voluntary groups and organisations to get some free one-to-one advice given on an informal and voluntary basis with no boring speeches or jargon. The idea is to promote the use of social media for social good.

Last night, we teamed up local Cardiff bloggers, many of whom attend the Cardiff Bloggers Meet ups, with those wanting to learn a bit more about the web to help their organisation or project.

The event saw 'patients' turn up from big charities such as Wales Millennium Centre to smaller ones such as Fair Trade Cardiff. There were also a couple of chairmans of partnerships and communities together meetings (pact), and those who work in communications who want to learn some basic skills on connecting with their audience online. Ed Walker has blogged about some of those in attendance here and here's a slideshow of photos from the event.

The next surgery will be in a couple of months time so make sure you keep updated using the RSS feed for the Cardiff surgeries on this website.

Finally we'd like to say a huge thank you to the lovely people at The Plan who kept the cafe in Morgan Arcade open for the event to happen. Thanks to all the surgeons who voluntarily gave two hours of their time to turn up and thanks to my fellow organiser for all his help too!
