Apparatus runs over W.Va. FF’s foot, crashes

Officials said the crash was due to a brake failure during maintenance

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A West Virginia firefighter was injured Friday when a fire engine ran over their foot and then crashed.

The Charleston Fire Department truck was undergoing maintenance at the station when the brakes failed, causing it to start rolling, according to WSAZ. One firefighter was injured while trying to stop the apparatus.

The apparatus rolled away from the station and crashed into the retaining wall of an underpass, officials said.

The firefighter was transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening after the engine rollved over their foot, according to WOWK. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no other injuries were reported.
