Trapped by Icelandic volcano, Bad Lieutenant cancels remaining U.S. tour dates

Bad Lieutenant

Foiled by an Icelandic volcano, New Order spinoff Bad Lieutenant today canceled its remaining U.S. tour dates next week, marking the second time in six months the band has called off what were to be its first-ever American concerts.

Unable to get out of the U.K. because of the volcanic ash spewing over Europe, Bernard Sumner and Co. already had canceled a Friday night concert in San Francisco and Saturday’s planned appearance at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival. Now the band has pulled the plug on concerts set for Monday in Chicago and Wednesday in New York.

In a statement posted on the group’s website, Sumner writes, We were hoping that conditions might change at the last minute and we’d be able to come and play for our fans. Obviously, this is a situation out of everyone’s control, and we are crushed that we won’t be coming to America for these dates.”

Bad Lieutenant’s statement makes no mention of rescheduling the U.S. tour for a third time, and says tickets are being refunded. The first round of dates last November, including slots opening for the Pixies, were canceled over immigration issues.

Bad Lieutenant tour dates:

April 16: Regency Ballroom, San Francisco, CA
April 17: Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, Indio, CA
April 19: Park West, Chicago, IL
April 21: Webster Hall, New York, NY
