[A-110] Blocky/Pixellated Video on 720p MKV TV shows
Hi, I've had the A-110 for a year and a half and haven't had any problems with video. I watch 720p rips from the same release groups regularly. All of a sudden this week, several videos are highly pixellated / blocky. The audio is fine, the video works fine on my computer. I pasted mediainfo specs from two of the pixellated videos. They do both seem to have all the same specs (High@L3.1 with 6 ReFrames).. Is this a known issue? Can I fix the files?

Note: I have the latest A-110 firmware

Where are the files? Network or HDD?
And have you tried a soft or hard reboot?

Files are on the internal hdd. I also tried playing over SMB, same result.

I also tried several hard reboots.

it sounds like something I ran into today.. I accidently hit the right combo of buttons to change my resolution.. go into setup and make sure your screen is still the same setting (and not auto)

Ill check, but these are the only two files that are pixellated so far, plenty of others are working fine
nope, video settings are normal, thanks for the idea though

RE: [A-110] Blocky/Pixellated Video on 720p MKV TV shows
Quote:(High@L3.1 with 6 ReFrames).. Is this a known issue? Can I fix the files?

This issue is possibly caused by the number of reframes being to high for the profile used
High@L3.1 only allow up to 5 reframes for 720p but its been encoded with 6 reframes
Doing so means its nolonger a High@L3.1 encode but instead a High@L4.0 encode and the profile flag should have been changed to High@L4.0 by the encoding application
When played back, the profile flag informs the video decoder of the profile level and by that the decoder desides how much videomemory etc. to allocate
Basically the decoder gets wrong information on how to decode this video because the profile flag is wrong.

You should be able to fix the files by changing the profile flag - the only way to change the profile flag is by remuxing them to a .ts file with tsmuxer
When doing so theres an option in tsmuxer to change the profile flag for the h264 video.
Try that and see if the video plays without pixelation

It worked for me, thanks! Any way to roll it back to MKV after that? I wish DIMENSION will get their shit together. :/

When you do the remuxing with tsMuxeR then choose demux instead of ts, or m2ts output. This will result two file one with .264 extension, and one with ac3. After this you can mux them together to mkv with mkvmerge. (Don't forget to set the video track frame rate when it tells you.)

Same problem and the solution suggested worked but is there some way to make the A-100 understand the problem without going through the hussle of extracting and demuxing? If VLC plays it fine why shouldnt the A-100 be able too?

The answer to this question is.... stop downloading scene crap!

lol but anyways, there prolly isnt a way for the PCH to see this. VLC is a much more complex application and has much more resources to use.

Ahh dimension is one of the better release groups, and if it plays good on the computer than its not the encoders fault.

How do I change the flag, I have got my file added and demux chosen as the out put format but can not see anything labelled flag?

Edit: ok reread you post like 10 times and think I got it.
Ok tried this seems to work only thing is that I lose the 5.1 track and end up with a DD 2.0. Is there anyway to get round this?
Nope looks like it is the source file as I just went back and tried the one that breaks up and that also only has a 2.0 track. Strange that the ones that break up all have DD 2.0.
