A Lot to Love about “Little Crochet”

by This is Carrie on April 6, 2011

I’ve been in love with Linda Permann’s book “Crochet Adorned” since I picked it up last summer so when I got the chance to be part of  the Blog Tour of her new book, Little Crochet: Modern Designs for Babies and Toddlers, I was ecstatic.  The first project to catch my eye was the “Sock it To Me” sweater vest.  I’m such a sucker for little boys in vests and ties.

With a range of sizes from newborn to toddler size 4, it was hard to decide which of my little boys to make it for.  I decided to start small and immediately bought my first skeins of sock yarn (have you discovered Knit Picks yet?).  I had really hoped to have it done in time to include with this review, but I always think/hope/wish i’ll have more time to crochet than I actually do.

The “rib” pattern in ingenious and the diagrams really help to keep you on track.  Stay tuned for the finished project early next week. Before I was even half done with the vest, I picked up yarn to make Big Brother one of his own.  That’s how much “cute potential” there is.   And even though there’s not enough time to crochet, there is plenty of time to dream of the next projects I’ll make from the book. First off, the adorable star booties on the cover. Then:

The Modern Crochet Bonnet (who’s having a baby girl?)

The Birdie Mobile (The Baby is about to move into his crib!)

The Sunshine Blanket (love this unique “in the round” blanket)

And the girls are begging for these Leg Warmers.

Don’t crochet? It’s never too late to learn a new skill (and I’ve found crocheting to be a wonderfully relaxing and satisfying hobby lately).  I’ve had a couple friends learn how to crochet mostly just by watching youtube videos!  Following a pattern may seem overwhelming at first, but it looks more intimidating than it really is.  In fact, in the back of Little Crochet, Linda has included an appendiix with excellent explanations and diagrams of techniques and stitches for the beginner crocheter (and to be honest, I even learned a few things by reading it).

Honestly, I have 8 projects to crochet before committing to more, but I definitely want to add this book to my collection. I am loving this book so far and it’s only day 2 of the tour. I may buy it before I get a chance to win it. 😀

I know exactly what you mean! Definitely great book for your crochet library though. While the patterns are modern, they are also timeless.

I would love to win this book! I think my girls would look so great in these little clothes and they would love to play with those adorable balls.
Thanks for the chance.
