Does Highway 61 get to Fordham?

Noted troubadour, cultural icon and Minnesota native Bob Dylan will be the subject of a two day conference at Fordham University School of Law next month.

The event will focus on the legal issues discussed in Dylan’s music and lyrics and the influence his art has had on society and legal practitioners today. It’s a heckuva good idea if you ask me.

The Hibbing native and former University of Minnesota student is the most frequently cited musician by legal writers. His cannon abounds with themes of social justice, racism, intolerance and war. Dylan croons of hanging judges, innocent men sentenced to jail and civil rights with a poet’s ear for language.

Among the discussion topics on the schedule: “Dylan’s Judgment on Judges: Are Power, Greed and Corruptible Seed All That There Is?” and “Dylan as the Complete Trial Lawyer: Using Hurricane Carter to Teach Trial Skills.”

In 2005, Widener University School of Law hosted a conference on the law and Bruce Springsteen.

The times they are a changing indeed.
