Sometimes my eyes start watering and itching along with continuous sneezing, how to control it?

Sneezing and itchy eyes are common symptoms of season allergies. These allergies occur due to exposure to airborne agents that are present only at specific times during the year. Season allergies result in symptoms such as runny nose, itchy skin, sneezing and eye irritation. The other name for such allergies is hay fever. The most common allergens that result in hay fever are pollen and grass. During spring, the common allergens include elm, oak, maple and birch. In summer, grass such as orchard, Bermuda, timothy and sweet vernal cause hay fever. In the fall months, ragweed is most likely to trigger allergic reactions in many individuals.

Tips To Control Season Allergies

When allergens enter the airway, the white blood cells of the body begin to create antibodies to fight the new entrant. This is an immune reaction that is triggered against a relatively harmless substance. As such it is also referred to as a hypersensitivity reaction. When the antibodies come in contact with the substance, certain hormones and chemicals known as mediators are released. An example of a mediator is histamine. The mediators are responsible for the resulting allergic reaction.

The best way to prevent hay fever is to avoid contact with the offending allergens. Home treatment for this condition can be done by applying cool compresses to ease the itching and irritation. Garlic soup may be consumed to alleviate the sneezing. This will also help if the symptoms are occurring due to a cold, rather than hay fever. A paste of crushed almond leaves is known to be effective in reducing itching around the eyes. Application of a paste of mashed papaya seeds around the eyelids may also help to reduce itching. A beneficial eyewash can be made by boiling some ginger in water. This can then be splashed on the eyes to obtain relief from itching and irritation. Rinsing the eyes with cool rose water is another beneficial remedy for itchy eyes. Vitamin C helps to strengthen the immune system and consuming foods that are rich in this vitamin such as citrus fruits would help to protect against various allergens. Seasonal allergies are also believed to be relieved by consuming beet and carrot juice regularly. Soreness of the throat, sneezing and runny nose can be eased by drinking a glass of warm milk to which a pinch of turmeric has been added. This is an age-old remedy which is known to be very beneficial in providing comfort from such symptoms.
