AUSTIN, Texas — In this exclusive video perspective from GI Outlook 2018, Reed B. Hogan, MD, a gastroenterologist at Flowood GI Associates and Endoscopy Center and Madison GI Associates and Endoscopy Center in Mississippi, discusses his presentation on how to best market a medical practice.

“A few take-home points that we have is that how important it is to switch from the old marketing methods to the new digital technologies,” Hogan told Healio Gastroenterology and Liver Disease.

His talk highlighted the importance of having a clean and friendly homepage on the practice’s website. Additionally, Hogan said social media has the potential to be a vital part of a physician’s practice.

“We will drive over 200,000 new visitors to our website this year through social media, which is incredible,” he said.

Hogan also highlighted how physicians should not focus on gaining Facebook friends, but rather use social media to drive people to their practice’s website to make appointments.

“The return on investment is pretty clear, and easy to show,” he said. “Our website is a major financial gain to our practice. We expect [at least] 2,000 patients that will join our practice through social media after hours without a phone call, without interaction except with our website.”
