Sixteen people were killed during an exchange of fire between tribal police and gang members in Pakistan’s troubled Balochistan province Friday, a senior administration official said.
Tufail Baloch, the deputy commissioner of Chaghi district, said police, backed by armed tribesmen, launched an operation against a gang involved in banditry and kidnapping in the area.
“Twelve members of the gang and four tribesmen were killed during exchange of fire,” he said.
Baloch said a heavy contingent of police was moved into Chaghi district to counter crime in the area. Police seized two vehicles and weapons from gang members, he said.
