Hornby Island Caravans:
This British Columbia builder makes tiny portable homes with great eye appeal and fine wood craftsmanship. I like the sensible bed in the Vardo model at left, which has storage underneath but doesn't require a ladder for access.
Loft sleeping areas are delightful, but they're not practical long term for older people, or those with disabilities, or those who are ill or recuperating from, say, knee or hip surgery.

Small and colorful:
Apartment Therapy selected 10
from its Small and Cool Contest to disprove the notion that a small space needs to be all white to seem roomy. Which shows there's really no reason for those who live in tiny homes to forgo the joys of color.
The contest is in its final days. Voting for the grand prize winner is Tuesday-Wednesday, May 1-2, so time is short if you want to weigh in.
Buying vs. renting land:
Debra Jordan of
discusses why she and her husband prefer to park their tiny house on rented land rather than buying land, even though, as she admits, she wants three acres in the country. It boils down to cost (and she gives all the figures); the need for savings for her son's education; and freedom to travel.
In a video, she shows the peaceful site she rents for $125 a month. "It's not easy to find a place to park your little trailer, but with some work, you can do it," she says reassuringly. Worth considering.
Tiny House Map:
Here’s a way for tiny-house people to connect with other like-minded folks on a local level, a classified listings site based on a map (similar to
